During its 30-year history, the local program, which began as an anti-drug tip line in 1983, has helped close more than 7,170 cases, contributed to more than 4,300 arrests, and assisted in recovering more than $7.56 million in stolen property, cash or drugs. In the last few years, Crime Stoppers has found ways to adapt to the ever-changing technology landscape, according to Ernie Slottag, who’s served as a volunteer member of the organization’s 30-member board since 1998.

Crime Stoppers: Westchester Property Damage Springfield police are trying to track down the people responsible for damaging property in the Westchester subdivision.

This week’s good-news editorial focuses on people trying to make Springfield a better place to live. Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties, the organization that offers cash rewards for anonymous crime tips, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year in the Springfield area.
