Help Nab Burglars by Saving Information About Your Personal Property

Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week

April 26, 2018

Officer Matt Goulet, Coordinator of Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard counties.

Residential burglaries occur in all areas and we’ve discussed in the past how citizens can take measures to prevent themselves from being victimized by making their home less vulnerable to being broken into and by reporting suspicious persons to police. This week we want to let you know how to take another pro-active step to fight burglary by keeping a record of serial numbers of property you own and photographing unique items such as jewelry. By saving this information for police if you are victimized - or better yet - storing this information on a free and secure database such as Leadsonline.com, it may help police identify a thief and could even assist in the return your property if you are ever victimized.

If you have any information about individuals who are involved in burglary or theft incidents, call the Crime Stopper tip line at 788-8427 and Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward if your tip leads to an arrest. You can also leave a tip on this web page and you can get more information about the Property Inventory System by visiting Reportit.LeadsOnline.com.

Fake Money Used in Social Media Web Sales

Look-a-like Money is Worthless, Numerous Area Residents Victimized

Fake Money Used in Social Media Web Sales

Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week
April 5, 2018

Officer Matt Goulet, for Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard counties.

In the past Crime Stoppers has advised you about some of the dangers in transactions that originate on social media sites such as Facebook or Craig’s list. This week I want to focus on worthless money sellers have received in many of these transactions. At first glance the bills look like real U.S. currency however; on closer examination it’s evident that the money is not real. There are two main types of deceptive look-a-like money; One form is commonly referred to as Chinese money because it has pink Chinese symbols on the face and back of the US bills. Another fraudulent form is called movie money because it states on the front “Motion Picture Use Only”. The “motion picture use” phrase blends into the bill and deceives the unknowing victim. You can see examples of this worthless fake currency on the Crime Stoppers website Cashfortips.us.

If you have any information about persons involved in passing invalid money, give Crime Stoppers a call and you'll earn cash reward if your information leads to an arrest. Call the Crime Stopper tipline at 788-8427 or leave an anonymous tip on this website (Cashfortips.us).
