Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week
August 3, 2017
Officer Mike Badger, Crime Stoppers Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard counties.
Areas in and around Springfield have been plagued by burglaries to motor vehicles all summer. This week, however, Crime Stoppers wants to discuss a specific problem related to these burglaries in hopes that you can help police identify the thieves. There has been a noticeable increase in cases in which suspects burglarizing a vehicle were able to steal a key fob or a spare set of keys to another vehicle and then return to steal the vehicle they had the key for.
Although there have been many items stolen from unlocked vehicles, including weapons and other valuables, the theft of fobs which start vehicles or activate push button starters has been a particular problem which has led to much greater losses.
If you have information which leads to the arrest of burglary to motor vehicle suspects or motor vehicle theives, Crime Stoppers will pay you a cash reward of up to ($2,500) twenty five hundred dollars. Call the Crime Stopper tipline at 788-8427 or leave a tip on the website Cashfortips.us.
