Requesting information on three weekend shootings

Four people were shot, but nobody was killed in three separate incidents of gunfire in Springfield overnight Saturday, police said. One has a suspect in custody, police are requesting your assistance in solving the other three.

Police said the gunfire that started the busy night occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the 2200 block of South 13th Street.

1st Incident: A man said he was driving down the street when somebody somewhere shot at him, striking him in the face with what police described as a pellet. The man was taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital and treated for a non life-threatening injury.

2nd Incident: Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, a woman was standing on the street in the 3600 block of North Grand Avenue East when her boyfriend got into an argument with someone. The boyfriend retrieved a gun, police said, and fired one shot, hitting his girlfriend in the leg. It was unclear from information available Sunday whether or not the girlfriend was the intended target or if the boyfriend had been arrested.

3rd Incident: The third incident of gunfire happened in the 1900 block of Clay Street at 3:30 a.m. Sunday when police said two men were shot, one in the foot and the other in the chest. Both injuries were non-life threatening. The victims were not cooperative, only saying they were standing outside and were shot by an unknown suspect, police said.

The three incidents remain under investigation.
