Another Illinois State Fair Parade for the record books! We enjoy participating in the annual Twilight Parade and appreciate having the opportunity to share awareness regarding our program. Location of Incident: 5th & South Grand Ave, Springfield
Victim: Alfred Dixon

On the May 22, 2007 at 3:48 am the Sangamon County Central Dispatch System received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a black male that was lying in the roadway at the intersection of 5th and South Grand. The male was bleeding and was not breathing. Multiple motorists had stopped to give the male, later identified as Alfred W Dixon (DOB 06/15/1957), chest compressions while the Springfield Fire Department, America Ambulance, and the Springfield Police Department were en route. These life saving efforts were continued while Alfred was transported to St. Johns Hospital. At St. Johns, Emergency Room Personnel located two gunshot wounds and it was determined that the injuries from the wounds were life threatening. He was placed on life support however he was pronounced deceased on May 26, 2007.

As summer continues to bring hot and muggy conditions in the daytime in Central Illinois, thieves are busy engaging in a crime of opportunity in the overnight hours. While decent people who work for what they own are sleeping, and the cars they purchased through that hard work are parked in their driveways, the few who lack the common sense to know right from wrong are busy stealing from parked cars. Springfield Police have taken numerous reports at Southside and Westside neighborhoods of items being stolen in these burglaries to vehicles. A majority of the vehicles which were burglarized were left unlocked with property inside which was then stolen. Avoid being victimized, never leave anything of any value in a car overnight.

Every month, Storm Team 20 partners with Green Family stores for their 3-degree weather guarantee. If forecasters correctly predict the next day's high within 3 degrees, a local charity wins money. For the month of July, the charity of choice was Crime Stoppers of Sangamon & Menard Counties. We received a check for $2000 which will be used to keep criminals off our streets!
