Crime Stoppers Report of the Week
January 12, 2017
Officer Mike Badger, Crime Stoppers Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard counties.
Crime Stoppers is a not-for-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization dedicated to assisting police by paying rewards for information about criminals and criminal activity. We want to help make our communities safer; and last year we had many successes which were covered in news stories throughout the year. We’ve even initiated special programs to help identify and apprehend those involved in gun violence, such as the special reward for information leading to the arrest of the person -or persons- involved in the homicide of young Alaysia Bennett.
What many people don’t know, however, is that Crime Stoppers is not a governmental entity- we don’t get or use tax money. Our operating budget, and most importantly the rewards we pay, comes from the generosity of the community through donations and support of our fundraisers. Our biggest fundraiser, the 8th Annual Crime Stopper Trivia Night is going to take place soon on Saturday January 28th at the Prarie Capitol Convention Center. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the event starts at 7 pm. We hope you can attend or make a tax deductible donation. If you'd like to reserve your spot (or a table), click on the Trivia Night tab on the right side of the home page of this site near the bottom.
Thank you very much for your continued support of Crime Stoppers.
