This week Crime Stoppers is seeking to assist the Springfield Police Department to identify an individual reference a theft that occurred on October 3^rd around 10pm at Hy-Vee Gas Station located at 1025 Outer Park, in Springfield.  A male suspect entered the gas station just before 10pm wearing a red Hy-Vee shirt over the top of a grey hoodie as well as a mask covering his face.  The suspect walked behind the counter and took over $1,000 in cash from a safe.  Photos of the individual can be found on this website, cashfortips.us. On may 10th of last year Neon Bryant was leaving the Capitol City Elk's Club at Martin Luther King and Brown Street when he was ambushed by a lone gunman. police are looking for tips to identify the perpetrator and hold him responsible for taking this man's life. Crime Stoppers Crime of theWeek February 25, 2016 Officer Mike Badger Crime Stoppers Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard counties.   The Crime of the Week this week involves a battery to a cab driver which occurred at approximately 7:45 pm on February 20th. In the incident, a cab driver was parked in a parking lot at 9th and North Grand in Springfield. Suddenly, a black male who stood approximately 5 foot 10 inches tall and had a slender build and long dreadlocks, approached the cab and broke a side window out of the cab. The subject then struck the cab driver several times in the face before the driver could get out of his parked vehicle.    Crime Stoppers wants to know who was responsible for this Aggravated Battery and Vehicular Invasion and we’ll pay cash if you can provide information and it leads to an arrest. Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week February 4, 2016   Officer Mike Badger, Crime Stoppers Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard counties.   Crime Stoppers is looking for tips about an armed robbery to a person that took place on January 15th in Springfield.  At approximately 10 pm the victim agreed to give a person unknown to him a ride during the frigid weather that evening. After the suspect got into the vehicle, however, he produced a black semi-automatic handgun and committed the robbery. The suspect was described as being a black male under 30 years of age with a thin build wearing a black jacket and a black beanie cap.   Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week January 21, 2016 Officer Mike Badger, Crime Stoppers Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard Counties Crime Stoppers is looking for information about a series of burglaries and thefts at video stores in the area during the past several weeks. Break-in’s have been reported at Family Video stores in Sherman, Southern View, and at two locations in Springfield –one on West Lawrence at Durkin Drive in December and most recently on January 13th on South MacArthur. Some of the video stores were entered by unknown persons who stole cash from the business; others had cash stolen from the business. An adjoining business to the Southern View video store was also victimized in an armed robbery on November 26th after the video store had been burglarized in October. Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week January 7, 2016   Officer Mike Badger, Crime Stoppers Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard Counties   On December 21st at 2:45 in the afternoon a red Toyota Prius turned onto Madison eastbound from MacArthur. After traveling a short distance and changing lanes to get onto the Walnut street exit, the Toyota struck a motorcycle which was also eastbound. The Toyota continued eastbound and briefly stopped at the Walnut exit near Douglas Park before continuing onto the exit. Police are looking to identity the hit and run driver and hope you can help. The red Prius should have damage near the rear wheel on the driver’s side and we have a photo of the vehicle will appear later on the Crime Stopper website. The motorcyclist was hospitalized for injuries in the accident.   If you can help police locate the driver or the vehicle involved in this hit and run, Crime Stoppers will pay you a cash reward. Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week December 30, 2015   Officer Mike Badger, Crime Stoppers Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard Counties   Springfield Police are looking to identify the person who shot a 36 year old male subject on December 26th, and Crime Stoppers is hoping to help. The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 at night at the 500 block of South State Street when the victim was returning to his home. An unknown suspect approached the victim from the side of the home and subsequently fired several shots at him. Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week December 10, 2015   Officer Mike Badger, Crime Stopper Coordinator for Sangamon and Menard Counties Two weeks ago, with the help of observant citizens, Springfield Police were able to make an arrest of a burglary suspect who was believed to be responsible for several west side burglaries. No sooner than police took one criminal off the street, however, another series of burglaries occurred last week at west side residential areas of Springfield near the mall and north of Washington Park. We're pleased that fewer people are leaving personal property in plain view in vehicles, and there haven’t been as many reports of burglaries to vehicles so far this holiday season. Unfortunately, the spike this week in residential burglaries has put a damper on recent successes.  Keep your eyes open, report suspicious activity to police, and call Crime Stoppers with your tips on suspects.
